Amongst the notable achievements of the last team of Bantu immigrants was the development of political states, or the introduction of centralized programs of government. They recognized the Maravi Confederacy about 1480. Throughout the sixteenth century the confederacy encompassed the higher section of what is now here central and southern Malawi, and, at the peak of its influence, from the 17th century, its process of government influenced peoples within the adjacent regions of present-day Zambia and Mozambique.
